The Humms were formed in March of 2008 by Zeke Sayer in Hartwell, GA. Originally the band was a group of hometown friends playing really loud “Happy Hippie Horror Rock” as they branded it in living rooms, dive bars and parties.  They recorded the first songs in Sayer's studio which was housed in a 1950’s mobile home, using an extension cord for power and was self-proclaimed to be haunted. The band began touring but only on the weekends due to some members attending high school. They would drive over 1200 miles in a day to play one show and then often head straight back right after words.  None the less they still managed to make shows in Atlanta, Alabama, Memphis, Nashville, Illinois and Florida.

Between touring, the band managed to record an albums worth of material that was never released, although four of those tracks came out on the band’s debut EP “Are You Dead?  that was released June 2009 thanks to London label Oddbox Records. In the same month, the band relocated to Athens, GA and gained a slim but sturdy following from playing the local clubs and house shows. At the end of 2009 the original bass and drum player left the band and Zeke took 5 months off from touring to record the bands debut record himself.

On August 2nd 2010 The Humms debut LP entitled “Lemonland” was released on Sayer's "Gypsy Farm" Record Label. A release in Canada and Europe followed on August 10th 2010.  Surprisingly as a debut, Lemonland generated a great response from listeners and writers as It was unofficially proclaimed to be one of the best albums of 2010 by many. In reaction, The Humms (with new members) once again hit the road with tour stops in Maryland, Durham, Chapil Hill, Nashville, Memphis, Atlanta and Athens in support of the record.

"The Humms punch and brawl and get physically violent with Rock 'n' Roll - They might win"

A NEW BAND A DAY - UK

“The title song of their ‘Are You Dead?’ EP was one of the finest singles of 2009 and possibly, the preceding decade”

SOUNDS XP - LONDON

“They proffered a knock-kneed, full-stage psychobilly freakout worthy of The Cramps or The Mummies, and set a high bar for any band that dared follow them”

FLAGPOLE MAGAZINE - ATHENS, GA

“By the end of The Humms' set, the dancing girl was in her underwear, the bass player was naked and half of the audience was on stage - The night was insane”

7 INCH ATLANTA

“The high energy performance was a nice departure from most of the music coming out of Athens currently”
