AWARDS / ACHIEVEMENTS

“Are You Dead? (EP) is a brilliant all killer no filler blast of garage pop, switching from the 60's sputnik rock of the title track to the Monkees-do-Nuggets cheery mayhem of Do the Graverobber!. LSD is Evil is a wonderful squawking yarn with more than a hint of a Boy Named Sue about it, while No One Wants To Be Alone on Valentines Day is simple but highly enjoyable Shins-style singalonga ballad stuff.

Full Review

"Completely ace garage fun time with The Humms. Lead track "Are You Dead?" has a great surf feel to it with a brilliant pop chorus. Quite Pixies-like in it's approach, but much more melodic with a few twists and turns in it like Mercury Rev on amphetamines - certainly far from the two-chord end of the garage spectrum. If there's any justice in the world this would be a huge hit! "Do The Graverobber" is also totally great, as is the rest of this manic, wildly inventive and goddamn catchy-as-shit EP. Best thing I've heard in ages."

REVIEWS

The debut EP of The Humms, “Are You Dead?” was recorded in various sessions at Zeke Sayer’s home studio from October 2008 until May 2009.  That same month, the EP was slated for release in June 2009 by London label, Oddbox Records. The tracks for the project was selected at last minute but included tunes about acid trips gone wrong, Valentines Day and one song that was inspired after Zeke over-heard the brutal sounds of a cow being attacked by a pack of wild dogs in a nearby pasture (Are You Dead - Title track).

After the release, the 4-track EP received nothing but high praise from critics and even made it to the number two spot on “Best Single of The Year” (SoundsXP Writers Poll 2009). Despite all the rave, only a limited number of 120 (hand-numbered) copies were ever made, 35 of which made it to the USA being sold at live shows and at the world famous Wuxtry Record store.  Since going out of print, the EP is (for now) only available in download format from iTunes World Wide.
